Story

In support of the annual Week of Activism that is observed between 23 – 30 September, we stand in solidarity with survivors on their journey of recovery from abuse.

During that particular week, Quetzal is launching Healing Words an anthology written by the participants who completed six transformative writing workshops with Global Wordsmiths and Quetzal as part of the Project Healing Words. This page invites reader to donate so more writing projects at Quetzal can be organised.

Quetzal is a 30+ year old charity based in Leicester that has dedicated its services towards providing long term counselling and support to the female victims of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA).

Why support us?

- to educate the public about the prevalence and impact of CSA and the importance of supporting survivors.

- to raise awareness about these needs, like free access to support of all survivors living in the LLR (Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland) region and beyond.

- to give local businesses, communities, organisations, and others the opportunity to host/participate in a wide range of events and activities that support survivors of CSA.

- to create a platform for survivors to share their stories and experiences, empowering others to seek help.

- to raise funds to expand and enhance the services offered to survivors.

Our organisation is named after the Quetzal, a beautiful South American bird that is prized for its colourful feathers. Legend has it that the Quetzal dies when caged and so it has become a symbol of freedom. At the Quetzal Project we help women to break down the bars of their psychological cages and gain freedom. We empower vulnerable women to transform their lives by supporting their recovery from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse.
