Our aim is to embed the BFC into our community as a place where members can come to shop, eat, meet and learn! In order to evolve we need to invest in the project and our goal is to develop a community cafe space. A Food Hub for the body and mind!

Story

The BFC is based at St George the Martyr, Borough High St in the heart of London's busy Southwark area. They operate a 3 times a week shop to members to support them with the cost of living as well as impacting positively on the reduction of food waste. There is no criteria for membership and this sets the BFC apart from other food hubs and makes them increasingly popular!

With a staff team of 2 and a team of dedicated, hardworking volunteers they have developed a service which allows customers to shop with autonomy, dignity and choice during these financially uncertain times.

For just £4.50 per shop customers can obtain up to 16 items of groceries and household provisions with a current value of £20+

Since January 2023 the BFC has redistributed over 40,000 kg of food destined for landfill to over 4500 customer households.

All financial donations to the BFC go directly back into their revenue stream to contribute towards running costs and future project developments and next steps!

About the campaign

Our aim is to embed the BFC into our community as a place where members can come to shop, eat, meet and learn! In order to evolve we need to invest in the project and our goal is to develop a community cafe space. A Food Hub for the body and mind!

About the charity

At the BFC we have over 2000 members who use our service to access low cost food that would otherwise be destined for landfill. Members get up to 16 items for £4.50. Since 01/23 we have redistributed over 30000kg of foods to over 4750 households. All revenue goes straight back into the project.
