Story
The Rickmansworth & Watford Sea Cadets (TS Renown) is one of a handful of London-based units on a body of water. We take full advantage of this by including on-site rowing and paddlesports in our training programme for a considerable chunk of the year. As a result, our c. 50 cadets get to enjoy fantastic outdoor activities while building confidence, earning qualifications and gaining invaluable water safety knowledge.
Sea Cadet units must operate as individual charities, and we receive no continual financial support from the Marine Society or affiliated organisations. We must raise our own funds to purchase and operate equipment to deliver the Sea Cadet experience.
TS Renown owns and operates our own fleet of boats (rowing boats, kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards), which are used for cadet training as well as supporting community events and other local charities during summer months. We incur boat licence fees of around £1,000 per year, on top of maintenance costs, to ensure our fleet remains safe and suitable for operation. We also pay fees to a number of watersport governing bodies, so that our volunteers deliver safe and appropriate training, and we can award qualifications to our cadets.
Your donation will help us fund:
- maintenance costs and licence fees for TS Renown's fleet;
- seamanship and water safety equipment; and
- costs incurred by volunteers to deliver water-based activities and qualifications.
