Story
Here in Maricopa County, the summer sun can be dangerous, even deadly, for our vulnerable neighbors. That's why, when temperatures top 100 degrees, Phoenix Rescue Mission declares a Code:Red on the streets.
The numbers are staggering. In 2023, extreme heat killed more than 330 of our neighbors in Maricopa County - most of them homeless. The danger disproportionately targets our most vulnerable populations: seniors, those with disabilities, and homeless people.
As the sun beats down on our homeless neighbors, Phoenix Rescue Mission's Hope Coach vans travel around Maricopa County, providing critical resources. Among their most appreciated gifts are Hope Totes, which include refreshing water, snacks, hygiene items, and a host of other basic needs.
