Story
During our 2024 Cricket tour to Kenya, Captain Scott’s Invitation XI will be attending The Rhino Charge 2024. We’re supporting Team Fat Rhino’s - Car No. 24 - with their effort to raise money for Rhino Ark.
Team Fat Rhino's - Car No. 24 consists of petrol heads with a passion for conservation. The team has been part of conservation and motorsport for over 25 years. They have participated in Rhino Charge for over 15 years with a modified Toyota Landcruiser 1989 - fondly called “Fat Betty”. Fat Betty bears testimony to the adage "there are no limits", as she with her able bodied crew tackle the great African wild.
The Rhino Charge is an annual off-road competition held in Kenya. Entrants are required to visit a number of points (Guard Posts) while travelling the shortest possible distances across difficult, trackless terrain, where speed is penalised.
Every year, the event is held in different areas with varied terrain. The experience is unparalleled as one is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by the amazing beauty of nature and wildlife and ironically the sound of 60 cars in a remote part of Kenya.
The chargers help Rhino Ark raise money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu . This provides an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and mountain bongo but also safeguards vital upland water-table habitats for Kenya.
Any help is gratefully appreciated and 100% of all donations go directly to Rhino Ark.
Both the organisation and event are run almost entirely by volunteers, who give up their spare time for this great cause and with the environment in mind, the culture of the charge is to leave no trace that the event took place!
