Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page, we would love you to join us in making a difference for homeless women today.
Who are the The Marylebone Project?
The Marylebone Project provides 24/7 safety and support for women facing homelessness in London. They believe in providing a safe, supportive environment for women to rebuild trust, learn to re-engage with society and start to rebuild their lives with the support of an all-encompassing service provision.
🌷The women face a variety of challenges including Domestic abuse, Human trafficking, Alcohol and drug misuse, Unemployment, Loneliness, Disability and Mental health, but whatever their story, The Marylebone Project aim to empower them to overcome homelessness and live independent, full lives.
Having witnessed their tangible work first hand, our commitment and respect for what they do has gone from strength to strength since we first partnered with them last year. Predominantly working with them on a food donation basis, in March this year, our founders Ali and Emily decided to direct the company's Meal For a Meal donations to The Marylebone Project, and through this we managed to fund 41 nights for a woman to be housed, fed, and provided with their extensive support and care services.
This was the catalyst to us being driven to do more, with our team fully onboard. The impact and work that The Marylebone Project does is incredibly tangible, and evident from the moment you walk into their housing project. They are making a life changing difference to the lives of vulnerable women on a daily basis, giving them the opportunity of a brighter future.
On Friday 7th June, we hosted a Big Lunch for their 112 residents and around 30 drop-in visitors, which is hopefully the first of many events to come. This was a beautiful chance for the residents to get together for a healthy, delicious meal, and enjoy other activities and engagement.
Sarah's Story: From Rough Sleeping… to a New Bright Future!
Unemployed and suffering from depression, Sarah was at crisis point. With nowhere to go she ended up sleeping on the streets. “I was scared all the time – what woman wouldn’t be? Men would sometimes shout out to me and make comments that made me feel intimidated. I would put on my fiercest face, but inside, I would be trembling with fear.”
Trapped in a living nightmare, Sarah’s sense of loneliness and despair intensified each night.
Eventually, Sarah heard about The Marylebone Project – a residential and drop-in facility for women in crisis in London. She recalls, “As soon as I stepped through the doors, I felt that things were different. They welcomed me with open arms.”
You wouldn’t recognise Sarah today from the scared woman who felt she had no voice or value in life. With the help of the Project, Sarah gained practical work experience while volunteering with Munch kitchen, the Marylebone Project’s social enterprise. This lead to Sarah securing a role at Hyatt Regency – The Churchill, a luxury hotel and partner to the Marylebone Project. With the project’s help, Sarah secured a flat, and been there for 2 years now, “I feel like a brand new person now, strong and self-confident. There’s no stopping me now!”
We have raised enough to house/sponsor a woman for 41 nights this year already, and would like to do more!
We're passionate about supporting women facing homelessness long-term but we can't do it alone. We're asking for your support to help us reach our £4000 goal to house a woman for 106 more nights. That way, together we will have housed a woman for nearly 5 months.
Here are some other ways your contribution could help:
- £28 could provide a woman facing crisis with a shower, a nutritious hot meal, and a safe place at the Sanctuary (their 24/7 drop-in facility) at any time of day or night.
- £47 can provide one night in an emergency bed and essential toiletries for a vulnerable woman facing crisis.
- £94 could provide a Home Starter pack for a woman progressing her journey to independent living.
Your kind gift, big or small, will help change the lives of homeless women in crisis.
We really thank you for any contribution!
