Story
On Sunday 9th April we head to Nepal for our toughest adventure yet.
With the last-minute nerves kicking in, we thought a fundraiser for the RNLI would help give us some extra motivation. Amy joined our local Porthcawl RNLI station as a volunteer crew member in September 2022, and Bleddyn is about to follow suit in also joining to become a volunteer tractor driver. It has quickly become an important part of our lives, and a cause we feel passionately about.
Our challenge kicks off with a hair-raising domestic flight from Kathmandhu to Lukla airport, which is statistically the world’s highest, steepest, and most dangerous airport. From there, the path begins to Everest Base Camp at 5,364m, Gokyo Ri summit at 5,357m, and our highest point – the summit of Kala Patthar at 5,545m. Along the way we will travel over suspension bridges spanning chasms of thin air, through hidden Buddhist monasteries, and into the heart of the warm, rugged Sherpa culture.
Our trip is completely self-funded, and 100% of your donation will go to the RNLI.
Porthcawl RNLI is one of the busiest lifeboat stations in Wales and we launch our lifeboats up to 100 times in a typical year. Porthcawl is one of 238 operational RNLI lifeboat stations who provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. At Porthcawl our volunteer crew operate two of the charity's inshore lifeboats; the Atlantic 85 B832 Rose of the Shires and D Class D861 Hugo Missen.
With too many people still drowning, more than ever people need the RNLI's help. As a charity, the RNLI depends on our donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe.
Thank you for supporting us and the RNLI – please wish us luck!
