Story
Challenge:
In September 2025, I will be trekking to Everest Base Camp alongside a group from Nottingham University with ‘Choose a Challenge’ in order to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation. We will be reaching an altitude of 5,364 m and walking approximately 130 km in challenging terrain and temperatures over the course of the 11 days.
Charity:
The Meningitis Research Foundation is at the heart of the initiative that is working with the World Health Organisation and leading experts on the disease to tackle meningitis globally. They aim to defeat meningitis and septicaemia by 2030.
Meningitis:
After infants and toddlers, students are the second most susceptible group to meningitis. Millions of individuals worldwide are affected by meningitis per year. 1 in 10 people lose their lives to the disease, while 2 in 10 experience life-changing permanent complications such as motor deficits, epilepsy, amputations, memory and sight complications, kidney problems, and more.
