Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am continuing my challenge of walking the entire 630miles of the Southwest Coast Path over the next few years. I started this challenge on 28th December 2024 from Minehead. So far I have undertaken the following sections:-

1. Minehead to Mortehoe 28th December to 2nd January 2025

2. Mortehoe to Westward Ho! 31st January to 2nd February 2025

The next section I intend to tackle is

3. Westward Ho! to Bude 19th April to 23rd April 2025

I am aiming to raise £2,000 on behalf of Friends of the British Overseas Territories (FOTBOT) for the St Helena Disabled Society to launch 'No Place Like Home' - a project supporting their efforts to allow patients to stay in their homes for as long as possible.

Saint Helena, which is reliant on UK aid funding and has average wages of just £9,460, only has one small hospital and one care home, which is always at maximum capacity. To stop patients waiting in hospital for places in the care home, the Occupational Therapy Service are eager to help them live in their own homes. But they need the right equipment to do so. That is why FOTBOT will be aiming to raise £8,000 through our 'No Place Like Home' project, to buy the equipment necessary for this work.

The money will go towards a wide range of equipment, including wheelchairs, ramps, shower chairs and hoists. Through this project, we hope to relieve the pressures on St Helena's hospital and care home, and foster better outcomes for the patients within St Helena's social care system.
