Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Following completion of my trail half marathon last year I have decided to up my game a little and will be taking on my first trail ultra. On the 9th March I will be attempting to complete the 34 Mile Welcome Way ultra organised by Punk Panther events. As I take on this challenge it will be 6 years to the day since I was on day 2 of the chemotherapy I needed to prepare my bone marrow for the transplant I needed to cure me of Aplastic Anaemia. Taking on and completing this challenge will be a huge undertaking but hopefully it shows that there is life after serious illness. Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Having started training at the end of last year I am finding the increase in miles challenging and coupled with more hill elevation gain than I have done before I genuinely do not know if I can complete this. However I would like to ask for your support towards a charity close to my families and my heart. All your support will help me through every step of the way.
In 2017, I was diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia – a rare and often misunderstood bone marrow disease that see’s the sufferers bone marrow shut down and stop producing blood cells – this can lead to extreme exhaustion, bruising, bleeding, regular infections and ultimately can be fatal.
Due to the rarity of the disease it is difficult to get valuable information and support with many doctors, nurses and even consultants not fully understanding the impacts that it can bring.
Aplastic Anaemia leaves suffers and their families feeling alone, isolated and lacking information and support as it does not have the network that comes with other life threatening illnesses. The Aplastic Anaemia Trust are a charity that look to support those people and were central to the emotional support needed for my family and I.
