Story
In late April I will be returning to Nepal to climb Mera Peak. Mera is the highest “non-technical” climb in Nepal. At over 21,000ft it is approximately 3/4 of the height of Everest and is the equivalent of getting to Camp 2 (of 4) for Everest mountaineers.
From Kathmandu I will fly to the notorious Lukla airport, rated the most dangerous in the World. I will the spend 7 days trekking to Mera before the climb. Summiting then requires a night in a tent on the mountain side at -15c, before scaling the Mera glacier in the dark to reach the peak at dawn. Should be fun!
This will be the highest altitude I’ve ever reached. At the summit oxygen levels will be less than half of that in Cambridgeshire. Altitude sickness is a given. It will be both physically and mentally challenging.
I’m doing this for the adventure and challenge (mid-life crisis), but I’m also hoping to raise some much needed funds for Price Bailey’s charity of the year, Samaritans.
I am funding the trip myself, so all donations will go to charity. Further, Price Bailey will matching money raised over the year, with a donation to Samaritans and other good causes.
All donations will be very gratefully received.
