Story
I am again participating in the Great North Run on the 10th September 2023.
This year I’m pleased to be running on behalf of this small registered charity C.S.F. Leak Association (Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak) to raise awareness of this very debilitating condition. They rely completely on donations and funds raised by volunteers so I’d like to be a part of that.
We all have a small amount of fluid in our skull called Cerebrospinal fluid. We can’t live without it and a CSF leak is a loss of the fluid that surrounds, cushions and cleanses the brain and spine, resulting in crippling pain and disabling neurological symptoms which progressively worsen with sitting or standing. This means people spend most of their time lying flat, unable to participate in any kind of normal life. Once active people suddenly find themselves isolated, unable to work, care for themselves or their family. The impact of this on families is devastating and causes a high mental health burden. It can happen to any one of us at any time.
This charity is run solely by volunteers meaning every penny goes towards increasing understanding and providing support for patients. So together let’s try to make a small difference and help to not only raise some awareness, but provide support for sufferers as well as securing future advancements in treatments and diagnostic equipment.
Thank you for your support, I will do my best.
