Story
On the 15th June 2024, Team Skipper made up of Tim Skipper, Brad Wiggs, Peter Horton and Rob Kelly take on the 'World's toughest bike race' and attempt to break the current four man team record in the 60-69 category.
RAAM is a race. Starting in Oceanside, California on the West coast of America the four person team will ride 3063 miles non-stop, 24 hours a day until they reach the finish at Atlantic City on the East coast of America.
The route will take them through 12 States, over the Rockies and Appalachian mountain ranges, taking the total feet climbed to 170,000ft with the highest point reached of 10,857ft. RAAM is about 30% longer than the Tour de France and racers must complete the distance in roughly half the time, with no rest days.
It's not for the faint hearted, once the clock starts it does not stop until they cross the finish line as a team. It is the world’s longest time trial, the ultimate race of truth.
The current four man team record in the age 60-69 category was set in 2014 and stands at 6 days, 14 hours and 18 minutes, averaging just over 19 miles per hour. Tim, Brad, Peter and Rob are all experienced riders who have completed RAAM before, in fact Tim Skipper has completed RAAM a staggering 21 times! He holds the most RAAM records and category wins, as well as being inducted into the RAAM 'Hall of Fame'.
BUT, they have never competed as a team of four together. Can they do it and will they be fast enough to break the record!?
Please show them support for their chosen charity, Cyclists Fighting Cancer who help children and young people living with cancer across the UK by providing them with new lightweight bikes and specially adapted trikes to help during their treatment and rehabilitation.
Approximately 2,400 children and young people (up to, and including the age of 18) are diagnosed with cancer each year in the UK. These bikes and trikes are proven to help the children improve their physical fitness and mental wellness, enabling them to get outside and get active, while having some much needed fun too!
Children just like seven year old Florence who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia last year. She has since undergone a bone marrow transplant, resulting in many complications. Mum says;
Florence was lucky enough to receive a trike from CFC. It is awesome! If she gets tired we can take over the pedals and steering. Florence was ecastatic, this is the first time she has been able to ride a bike since being poorly. What an incredible charity, thank you so much!
Your donation will help CFC continue to provide more bikes and trikes to children just like Florence, so on behalf of everyone at Team CFC thank you very much for your support.
