Earlier this year I went to Lourdes on my first trip as a volunteer. It was the most amazing week for both the children and young adults (our VIPs). They had so much fun with plenty of activities arranged to keep them busy. We had donkey riding in the Pyrenees, day trips to the beach and the zoo, and even a fancy dress disco!

For some of the VIPs it was their first trip abroad and first time on a plane. Many of us take trips like this on a regular basis as they are easy to arrange. For some of our VIPs arranging such trips are much more difficult, for some, impossible, for their families.

Whilst the VIPs had an amazing week and the best time with us, their families were having a much needed week of respite knowing that their young ones were in very safe hands and having fun.

Next year Gp 124 will be celebrating 20 years of taking children and young adults with additional needs to Lourdes.It’s going to cost £15k, so there will be a number of events going on this year to enable us to travel.

Our first event is the walk across the O2 on the 3rd September.I will be doing the walk with other members of our team and even one of the young VIPs we took with us last Easter!
