Having been volunteering for a local food bank for over a year, I have been more aware than ever of the housing crisis that we face in this country, especially London. Every week, a really wonderful group, get up in the early hours and head to Covent Garden vegetable market, further to which we set up a fresh fruit and vegetable foodbank for those that need it.

We offer fruit and vegetables to approximately 100 people per week which hopefully makes their lives easier. The gratitude for this gesture that is provided is so immense. SO many of these people wait in line for hours to receive their provisions. Those with no access to cooking facilities are so grateful for cheese, bread and basics.

Being part of this community not only makes me feel so unbelievably grateful for having warmth and shelter, but makes me want to help more for those who have no home whatsoever.

The thought of getting into water that is 5 degrees this weekend actually makes me whince, but its the least I can do - so many people are sleeping in this temperature....

Please give generously - its cold out there.
