At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you. Visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk

Story

My name is Paul Weston and I'm 60 years old, married for 30 years with two adult sons.

I met Steve when when we were 16 at school in Gloucester, and we became lifelong friends. He is my wing man, my Best Man and my brother.

Steve has a wonderful family, including three marvellous grandchildren, the oldest of which is Felicity. Fliss is 6 years old. She is an avid reader. Her favourite series of books is"The Dragon with the Blazing Bottom" - she can recite the stories word for word. She loves jigsaw puzzles, Lego and playing with her younger brother.

Last summer while on holiday abroad, Fliss fell seriously ill. She was initially diagnosed with Septic Arthritis, but treatments were proving ineffective. On further investigation it was found that Fliss had Leukemia. She has gone through intensive, painful treatments and her amazing parents have been with her at every stage.

I wanted to help Fliss, her family, and families like them by raising money for Young Lives versus Cancer - a charity that has already supported the family in amazing ways. This is a summary of the help they give, from their website:

"When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you."

To raise the money I am cycling from John o'Groats to Lands' End over 12 days in June. Families that get news like Fliss' parents got are in the darkest of dark places. I hope that by fundraising like this we can bring some light and hope into those dark places.

Please donate what you can,or share this in your networks. Your support means the world to a sweet little girl, her family and me.
