Story
Help Evelina Children's Hospital Save More Lives Like My Granddaughter's! ❤️
My granddaughter, Indy's, life was undoubtedly saved by the Evelina Children's Hospital team, consultants at King's College Hospital, and the surgeons at Great Ormond Street who performed the operation.
For nearly a year, she battled debilitating violent brain seizures – 40 times a day – that turned their entire young family's life upside down.
This once active, funny, bright, and healthy 6-year-old suddenly faced a terrifying reality.
The pain and suffering were unrelenting and unimaginable.
For nearly a year, local doctors did their best, but nothing stopped the seizures.
Then, specialists at Evelina London and King's College Hospital isolated the problem in her brain and determined that surgery was possible.
This complex brain surgery offered a potential lifeline. The Evelina team's calm, supportive, and honest approach throughout helped us deal with our fears.
During that awful year, my granddaughter never once complained or cried. It was humbling to see her always asking how everyone else was doing. ❤️
Despite needles, catheters, and other invasive procedures, she remained incredibly selfless and brave, but was understandably weary of it all.
Finally, Evelina Children's Hospital and Great Ormond Street proceeded with the brain surgery. There were significant risks, but her quality of life was deteriorating by the day.
The brain operation successfully removed the area of the brain that was causing the seizures.
A year later, after a long and careful recovery, she's almost back to her normal life – back in school, seizure-free, and playing again with her little brother! ❤️
While our story has a happy ending, many children and their families aren't as fortunate and need the kind of support that Evelina provides.🤲
