Fighting Breast Cancer headed by Dr A Makris & Dr D Miles supports researchers at Mount Vernon investigating new ways of diagnosis and treatments. Results are presented nationally and internationally with publications in major medical journals.

Story

This is a disease that has impacted a number of women in my life! Fortunately, all have been able to overcome their illness but this (in part) has only been possible due to the research that takes place to improve our understanding of breast cancer and by providing treatment that is targeted to the individual and their personal diagnosis.

Fighting Breast Cancer is a campaign that has been set up to support breast cancer research at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. This research is aimed at improving the outcomes of patients diagnosed with breast cancer, by increasing cure rates, helping patients to live longer while reducing the side-effects of the treatments used. We take part in national and international trials that offer our local patients early access to the latest treatments. Additionally, we have developed our own research programme that uses advanced imaging to better define those patients who will not respond to treatment so that they can be offered alternative and effective treatments.
