We support police officers following injury to regain health and return to active duty

Story

After over 32 years of public service, more than twenty-three of those with North Yorkshire Police, its almost time to hang up the keys to the traffic car for the final time. During my service I have seen the absolute best and very worst society has to offer. I have also had the honour and privilege of working with some incredible people during that time and the professionalism and dedication I have seen first-hand at many of the scenes I have attended cannot be underestimated and is rarely seen or experienced by many people.

Police Officers are very often the first responders to serious collisions and dangerous incidents, dealing with death, distress and aggression. They have to see and hear things that other members of the public would simply not be able to cope with (Martis Media/Police Oracle). The Police Treatment Centres (PTC) provide police specific treatment for any on or off duty injury. Whether it is a physical injury, or stress, depression, anxiety related, treatment is provided to help them recover and aid their return to work.

I have long been an admirer of the Police Treatment Centres who offer both a physiotherapy and well being course for injured officers and I have had numerous team members who have benefited form the wellbeing course and very recently have attended on the physiotherapy course so know only too well how fantastic their facilities and staff are.

The majority of PTC funding (91%) from members of the Police Family who make a voluntary donation, normally through monthly payroll giving, in order to be eligible to attend the Centres for treatment. The remainder of their income is made up from fundraising, third party claims, dividends received and other little extras such as room hire, hospitality etc.

This is why I really want to help & am aiming to complete #1268The24HourChallenge It really is all about the numbers and this is my plan:

126.8KM in 24 hours

1268 - My collar number

24 hours – My 24th year with North Yorkshire Police

My plan is to set off from the Cenotaph in Harrogate at 1pm on Wednesday 12th June 2024 and run/walk 5.28km (528 is the collar number of my good friend and fellow fundraiser Pierre Olesqui) on the hour every hour for 24 hours making a total of 126.8km. If anyone would like to run with me or just come along and whoop / clap at any time I would be grateful of your support.

I realise this will require a monumental effort but seeing what some of my colleagues go through on a daily basis gives me the drive and determination to see this through.

Finally, a plea. If you can support me with a donation no matter how big or small you really will make a difference to those who put themselves in harms way on a daily basis so thank you.
