Story

In March 2023 I was diagnosed with an invasive form of breast cancer which, following surgery, was also found in my lymph nodes. Under the expert care of The Royal Marsden I was fortunate to benefit from some innovative diagnostic tools and my adjuvant treatment has been nuanced. Thankfully, a year on, I am in remission and have every reason to be positive.

While the diagnosis of cancer was a shock, I am so lucky to have been diagnosed now rather than 20 years ago. The extraordinary advances in breast cancer research have allowed it to become a treatable disease in recent years.

Having said that there is still much work to be done. Cancer is indiscriminate and will affect 1 in 2 of us in our lifetime. We all know someone whose life and family has been turned upside down by cancer. We wanted to raise funds for research into improving all cancer diagnosis, treatment and ultimately outcomes.

The Institute of Cancer Research do extraordinary work in this field and we are proud to be raising funds and running for such a worthy cause. Please do support us by contributing to the sponsorship page. My marathon training has been a bit hit and miss for obvious reasons. It won't be fast, but it will be fabulous!

Finally to all those ladies out there, my diagnosis was an incidental find, so go for your mammograms, ultra sounds and if needed your MRIs - and ask questions. Early diagnosis is key and these medical folk really know their stuff and are there to help.
