Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for Prospect Hospice!
I am undertaking the huge but very exciting challenge of the 26.2 miles that is Paris Marathon on the 7th of April 2024!!! To raise money for the incredible Prospect Hospice. Hospices are perceived for the end of life care but in fact far from it. The wonderful nurses and a team of experts help advise cancer patients on managing their pain and symptoms as well as supporting families with advice and guidance. Treatment is provided as well as continuous support in the community. My Uncle Ian is someone who is getting this care and support from the specialist team.
In November 2016, my Uncle Ian was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer, with liver, peritoneal and small bowel cancer. Neuroendocrine Cancer or NETs, can occur in people of any age or gender and can develop in many places throughout the body. Neuroendocrine Cancer is when the cells stop working normally and start to grow uncontrollably, and/or function abnormally. Please see the link attached to find out more information about this cancer.

DON'T SAY NO, UNTIL YOU'VE HAD A GO!!!
My Uncle Ian, FabUnc to me, always said this to me growing up! Encouraging me to be the best person I can be, making me believe I can achieve anything! This quote for me, is extremely special, growing up my parents, including my auntie and uncle introduced me to so many incredible things. My love of sports and being physically active comes from them. Firstly, let's talk skiing… Following behind my uncle Ian as he carves his skis so effortlessly into the snow has got to be by far my favourite thing to do on our ski holidays, what an incredible skier he is! Making every twist and turn look easy! He has taught me everything I know, and we have shared so many fantastic memories on so many different mountains. Onto Scuba diving! Our biggest challenge together to date, gaining our PADI and Advanced qualifications on a little island called Gozo just off the coast of Malta. We shared deep dives, wreck dives, and night dives which is an incredible experience and made even more special that we did it together! Did I mention the man also plays golf? And has achieved a hole-in-one!! What a Rockstar! I picked up my clubs because of him. If my Uncle reads this, he’d say I’m “whittering” a word he’d describe my conversations if I went on and on!
My Uncle Ian is always there by my side, whether it is on a roller-coaster in Disneyland, on top of a mountain in France, or at the bottom of the sea in Gozo, I could, and can always rely on him to be there for me whenever I need him. I will always be forever grateful to my uncle for sharing these challenges and opportunities with me.
Sadly, on Tuesday the 6th of February, my Uncle Ian passed away. Surrounded by love and family. This now makes my running journey even more special, motivating me to get out there and give it my all! Raising money for such a wonderful cause. I know how proud my uncle would be of all the support I have had from everyone so far, and he will be dearly missed by all.
