Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit the Paddle Group RMA JustGiving page.
2024 will bring about 2 very significant anniversaries; the 80th anniversary of the largest opposed amphibious operation in human history, otherwise known as Operation Overlord, or D-Day, and the 360th anniversary of the formation of His Majesty's Royal Marines, 1664 to 2024.
To mark and remember both of these special, tide-turning events, the Paddle Group will be executing 2 key events on their own expedition calendar:
1. The D-Day Cross Channel Paddle (A 90 nautical miles paddle from the Royal Marines Yomper in Portsmouth, to Port-en-Bessin in Normandy; followed by paddling of all the allied beach heads) - Completed, raising nearly £38,000 Pounds.
2. The Poole to Commando Training Centre Race (P2CTC) - Annually, runners complete this journey across land over 2 days. The Paddle Group will join this effort for the first time this year and race the runners by paddling 2-man Kleppers 85 miles from Poole to CTC.
3. The Commando Paddle (43 Commando to the Commando Training Estate at Achnacarry, followed by a 5-mile portage of Klepper kayaks to the Commando memorial at Spean Bridge) 20-26th October 2024
The Paddle Group RMA is formed up of veteran and serving Commandos from across all three U.K. Services; the Royal Navy, the Army, and the Royal Air Force.
Our kayak expeditions are carried out in Klepper 2-man folding kayaks, which hold relevance to folbot and kayak operations dating as far back as 1940, and include some of the most historic wartime efforts and locations, as we remember and acknowledge the herculean efforts of our forebears, from COPP, SBS, Royal Marines and SOE.
