Story
At the end of July 2023 my lovely daughter, Sophie, died from Meningitis septicaemia. She was 20 years old. On Sunday afternoon, she had symptoms, achy shoulders, neck and head and an overwhelming tiredness and aversion to light. Sophie and her mother went to A and E. The doctor dismissed the idea that she had Meningitis. Sophie went home, she and her parents thought she was not seriously ill. By the morning Sophie had advanced sepsis/septicaemia. The emergency treatment could not save her life and she died on Monday afternoon. Her death was tragic and avoidable. I am supporting Meningitis Now because this charity supports the bereaved, supports survivors of Meningitis and funds research into Meningitis. Research can develop improved vaccines, find more accurate ways of diagnosing Meningitis and raise awareness of this deadly infection. I will be cycling round the Isle of Wight, 90kms with a target time of 6 hours. Thank you for supporting my fundraising efforts in memory of Sophie Ward.
