Our OXFAM shop in Castle Street, Swansea, will be 50 years old on April 3rd 2025.

We are doing this challenge, as a shop team, to raise funds for OXFAM and to honour and remember those committed activists who started our shop and who campaigned and fundraised for OXFAM even before we had a permanent shop... including organising sponsored walks!

It is sad that 50 years on we are still having to campaign for an end to conflict and poverty... but it is good that there are still people in Swansea trying!

Twenty years on from the Make Poverty History campaign, we still believe in Nelson Mandela's words : “Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made, and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. And overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life.”

As Dominic Vickers from OXFAMGB wrote in a recent blog :

"Every generation carries on the fight by walking with all those that preceded it. For seasoned and new activists alike, Mandela’s words can still inspire and seem as relevant as ever: 'Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation.' ".
