'OUR HEROES FUND'

Johnny Gallagher is raising money for Taxi Charity For Military Veterans
The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans (formerly known as the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled) was formed in Fulham in 1948. Its object then was to help war veterans, in their homes and hospitals, throughout London and the home counties, by providing entertainment, outings and much needed specialised equipment. Our aim now is simple: to work for the benefit, comfort and enjoyment of military veterans, to the best of our ability. For our annual Worthing outing, we now collect veterans from all over London, including the Royal Hospital Chelsea and other Veterans' Homes, as well as those who still live in their own homes. This amounts to over 300 ex-service men and women and over 130 taxis. In order to fund these outings, we seek donations from the general public and organisations, and we rely on volunteer London licensed taxi drivers to provide their taxis and time for free.

Story

Me and Dorothea Barron, a 100 year old WW2 veteran and my oldest best friend have teamed up together to try and reach the goal of raising £1million for our military heroes.

Last year we raised £150,000 to get 17 x WW2 veterans back to the beaches of Normandy for the D-day 80th anniversary. This year we are looking to raise over £100,000 by VE Day (8th May 2025) so Dorothea and her comrades can FULFIL ANY DREAM they still have, from flying spitfires, visiting graves of their fallen friends, returning to the places they once fought and much more. If achieved, it will be a huge milestone for mine and Dorothea's fundraising, raising a quarter of a million pounds would break the charities record since it was established in 1948!

Recently I helped Dorothea fulfil her dream of flying a spitfire to pay tribute to her late husband who served in Bomber command, a tearful moment to say the least. The event was watched on by other veterans whom now would love to fulfil a dream of their own and I think as nation we at least owe them that.

Achieving this would bring so many smiles to our last few heroes whilst giving them an important message that we all are still deeply grateful of what they and their generation did to preserve our great nation. As you can see on this page all funds will go straight to the Taxi Charity for Military veterans and any excess funds will go towards trips, events and host many surprise 100th birthday parties. All of which gives them something to look forward to and keep them hanging on here with us.

'a nation that fails to honour its heroes, soon will have no heroes to honour'

I am starting the donation off with £20,000 myself, I believe we can do this!
