'OUR HEROES FUND'

Johnny Gallagher is raising money for Taxi Charity For Military Veterans
We take military veterans on trips in taxis to offer them comfort and enjoyment.

Story

Me and Dorothea Barron, a 100 year old WW2 veteran and my oldest best friend are trying to raise £1million by VE DAY (8th May) so her and the last of our heroes can fulfil any dreams they still have, attend future events and never have to worry again about having the funds to take trips to pay respects to their fallen friends for as long as they live.

Our first mile stone is to hit is £100,000!

For far too long veterans have been let down or left in limbo until last minute on whether or not they will receive funding for events and trips. Just this month alone, the month before VE Day 80th anniversary the government didn’t commit to funds, then promised, un-promised and now have promised to pay for a few trips for just this year.

It is time for us, The Great British public, to take matters into our own hands, to give our heroes the love and the reassurance they so desperately want and not to have to rely solely on governments, whilst I appreciate the help circumstances can often change.

The goal is to raise £1 MILLION before VE Day on the 8th May 2025, just a few weeks away. I know it is ambitious but I believe in the Great British public and I know we can do it.

All money will go to the 'Taxi Charity For Military Veterans' and hopefully we can raise enough funds which will be used for future events, cover short falls on trips , host many 100th birthday parties, FULFIL ANY DREAM they still have and ensure they will be able to go on trips to commemorate their fallen friends up until they leave us.

Last year I helped Dorothea fulfil her dream of flying a spitfire to pay tribute to her late husband who served in Bomber command, a tearful moment to say the least. I also raised over £100,000 last year to take veterans back to the beaches of normandy for the D-day 80th anniversary and attended a veterans surprise 100th birthday party all via the Taxi Charity. If they know they have more occasions like this to look forward to it gives many of them a reason to keep holding on with us.

'a nation that fails to honour its heroes, soon will have no heroes to honour'

I am starting the donation off with £20,000 myself, I believe we can do this!

About the charity

The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans (formerly known as the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled) was formed in Fulham in 1948. Its object then was to help war veterans, in their homes and hospitals, throughout London and the home counties, by providing entertainment, outings and much needed specialised equipment. Our aim now is simple: to work for the benefit, comfort and enjoyment of military veterans, to the best of our ability. For our annual Worthing outing, we now collect veterans from all over London, including the Royal Hospital Chelsea and other Veterans' Homes, as well as those who still live in their own homes. This amounts to over 300 ex-service men and women and over 130 taxis. In order to fund these outings, we seek donations from the general public and organisations, and we rely on volunteer London licensed taxi drivers to provide their taxis and time for free.
