Story

Our Charity Partner

This is our second year supporting the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), with all proceeds from the evening benefitting the vital work of the Lilongwe Institute of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery (LION) project in Malawi, transforming the lives of those affected by hand trauma and disability.

Malawi is one of the world’s least developed countries, with the ninth highest rate of road traffic deaths globally. For every death, there are 25 non-fatal injuries causing permanent disability which can affect whole families and lead to poverty and dependency.

The LION project will provide free of charge treatment for patients at a new, purpose-built facility.

Launched in January 2023, the BSSH will assist LION in the delivery of treatment for elective and traumatic conditions of the hand for five years, collaborating with local staff to run specialist hand clinics and regular hand trauma and elective lists, while promoting sustainability through education and training.
