We fundraise to enable young people to become International Volunteers

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am fundraising to allow me to be able to volunteer for a year in Senegal. I will be going to Senegal for 12 months from August 2024 to volunteer with the charity Project Trust.

Project Trust is a British educational charity which supports young people to volunteer overseas to allow them to contribute to the international community and learn from other cultures. I have been through a rigorous selection process and have been selected to take part. Volunteers are chosen based on their enthusiasm, leadership skills, willingness to work collaboratively with others and their openness to learning from new cultures and their desire to share and contribute through volunteering.

I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity of a good education and the chance to participate in music, sport and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. I very much hope that I can share my energy, enthusiasm and passion for science, learning, music and sport and hopefully nurture this passion in children who have been less fortunate than me in terms of chances to thrive.

Senegal is a vibrant country in West Africa with diverse landscape and culture with a predominantly muslim population. I will be speaking French and learning Wolof the most common language spoken.

Senegal has a rich musical tradition and is world famous for jazz-a musical passion of mine! During my year I will be teaching Science and English to group of disadvantaged children and will be living in the heart of the community, immersed in local culture. I will help create and run extra-curricular activities in music and sport and will definitely be joining in with music and jazz.

In order to take part in this incredible year of volunteering I need to raise £7,500. I will be doing lots of fundraising activities throughout the year including a sponsored Jazz evening! The money raised will pay for my travel, accommodation and training and to prepare me for the year and to give support while overseas. I am really looking forward to taking up this amazing chance to learn and grow as an individual by immersion within another culture and community and I very much hope that I will be able to contribute to my host community.

I will be writing a regular blog to let you know about my progress during the year.

I am incredibly grateful for your donation, no matter how large or small.

Thanks so much for your support!

Project Trust is a Scottish-registered educational charity providing young people in the UK and Europe with international volunteering experiences. Project Trust Volunteers are based in projects in Africa, Asia or Latin America for 12 or 8 months supporting teaching or youth development work. Empowering global citizens Project Trust’s aim is to empower generations of young people to act as responsible and active global citizens. We support ethical, long-term volunteering experiences which enable the Volunteers to make a meaningful contribution to their host community whilst building knowledge, skills and cultural intelligence. Project Trust works with a small group of Volunteers each year, allowing the staff team to know each individual’s skills and interests. This allows us to place Volunteers in projects where they can get the most out of the experience and enables our staff to provide tailored support to each young person. Project Trust strives to be open to all young people with the desire, motivation and aptitude required to benefit from a long-term, ethical, volunteering placement
