My self (Omar) and my friend Guy will be taking on the challenge and running the London Marathon 2024 in support of save the children charity.

Background:

I am currently junior doctor in the UK. Living in Syria until the age of 12, and prior to the war, enabled me to experience a peaceful Syria where despite a lack of resources I had a good education and access to healthcare in a safe environment. I then had the privilege of moving to the UK where I was able to complete my education. Unfortunately many of my generation and younger have not had, and will not have, this chance with their futures and aspirations ending before they have began. As you may know, the conflict in Syria has caused an ongoing humanitarian crisis, displacing millions of innocent children from their homes since 2012. Earlier last year, Syria and Turkey were also hit with a devastating major earthquake which alongside the war, caused a critical disruption of education for millions of children and a lack of healthcare resources leaving many vulnerable. Save the Children not only supports children that have been affected by this disaster but also allows for a response to disasters all over the world with provision of food, health clinics, psychological support, and access to education.
