Story

Hi, I'm Olivia. I'm thrilled to be running the London Marathon this year to support the Meningitis Research Foundation, a cause that is incredibly personal to me.

When I was just 13 months old, I was admitted to hospital with suspected meningitis. That night, I suffered a severe seizure that lasted nearly an hour, and I was placed in an induced coma for two days. I was later diagnosed with encephalitis, which is an inflammation of the brain. Encephalitis can lead to severe neurological damage and can be life-threatening. The prognosis wasn't good, but thanks to the support of my wonderful family and the amazing NHS, I was extremely lucky and made a full recovery, including re-learning to walk.

I’m running this marathon to give back to those affected by meningitis, encephalitis, and septicaemia. The Meningitis Research Foundation does incredible work, funding vital research, and raising awareness about these life-threatening diseases.

By running the marathon, I hope to inspire families of young children who are currently fighting their own battles with encephalitis or meningitis and to fund vital research to help others recover.

Thank you for your support!

Olivia

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
