Story

I am excited to announce the launch of the first Mental Elf 5km event, in Newport. On December 1st 2024, I am going to be participating in the 5km Fun Run in support of individuals in our community struggling with mental health issues.

If you know me, you’ll know i’m not exactly an avid runner and i’ll be definitely taking it at my own pace but, it's more to raise awareness and to rid any shame surrounding mental health.

I, myself have struggled with mental health issues from a very young age, back and forth different counsellors and appointments until finally finding out the route cause of a lot of confusion and pain. Newport Mind was actually the sole reason I got out of bed some days.

Throughout university, most of my assignments were based around mental health, the stigma and just how hard it is living with a range of different disorders and conditions.

Now, at the age of 23, I’m not afraid to admit that I still continue to struggle with my diagnosis. Unfortunately, it has cost me friendships, relationships and even affects my day to day life. But what I do know, is that i’ve come such a long way from where I was before. I’m bettering myself every single day.

My mental health will always, always be the biggest struggle for me, and that is okay. I’m still human, still living my life the best way I can, surrounding myself with individuals who are patient, supportive and provide a shoulder to cry on - even when they don’t always understand.

Although taking accountability is incredibly important, and you don’t always do the right thing, please do not ever feel like you’re a burden or you’re ‘too much’ for asking for support or simply not knowing how to cope with your own mind, it is not your fault and you’re not alone. I understand how hard it is to just ‘be you’.

It is about uniting with your local community to do something positive for yourself while giving back by helping us reach my fundraising goal of just £50.

Little me would be so proud.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for any donations. I know life is tough at the moment for everyone🤍
