Story

As some of you know I ran the Brighton Marathon last year which raised £1,300 for LimbPower a charity which helps amputees such as my mum with there disability.

In 10 Weeks, I will be running the Denbies Ultra.

This event is special and will take over 10 hours to complete and will cover for some over 30 miles. The link about the event will be at the bottom.

For this I will be raising money for the IBC Network UK.

Last summer my Mum was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) which led to her discovering this incredible charity called IBC Network UK.

They have been her lifeline and offered amazing support, guidance and advice which wasn’t available via any other of her support networks.

Having had our eyes opened to this horrible cancer and its impact, it’s shocking to think that there is currently no government funding or funding from other Cancer or Breast Cancer charities.

As a result the current NHS support that Mum has received has very limited knowledge on the disease and the importance of the IBC treatment protocol.

Inflammatory Breast Cancer is a very rare, aggressive and fatal form of breast cancer. In the UK it accounts for 2% of breast cancer diagnosis, however a big 10% of Breast Cancer deaths in the UK are attributable to IBC. Sadly the prognosis is currently only a 48% 5 year survival rate !! It’s not got a huge amount going for it as it is difficult to spot.

However having discovered the IBC Network Mum has been armed with relevant knowledge and had the opportunity to fight for correct and timely treatment and we are pleased to say she is currently doing extremely well.

The key goals of the charity are to raise money for the only IBC research in the UK, provide vital support to those living with IBC and raise awareness with health professionals and the general public.

My mum feels very lucky to have found the network but feels very passionately about IBC knowledge and protocols being available to everybody diagnosed with this aggressive pile of shit !!! 😉

The IBC moto is Hope Always, and would be grateful for any donations.

Thank you
