Story
Hello everyone! My name is Nuria, originally from Spain but happily calling London home for over four years. Now, I'm getting ready for a new challenge, running the London Half Marathon to support the MS Trust!
So, here's my story (deep breath): I was diagnosed with MS when I was around 12. For years, I lived in complete denial, didn’t tell my friends, ignored my diagnosis, and went about my life as though nothing had changed. In fact, I barely talked about it with my family because, frankly, I couldn’t face it. One doctor even advised me to keep it a secret to avoid being treated differently, which I took on board a little too well!
Fast forward to 2020, when I discovered running and suddenly, I was hooked, I loved the feeling of pushing myself. I even ran every day (a first for me, I promise you). Then one day, while running through Tower Bridge, I started seeing blurry, felt dizzy, and walked home, and blamed it on stress. But soon after, I struggled to continue my routine, and when I landed in Spain for Christmas, my cousin, who is a doctor, took me to the hospital. Yes, it was an MS relapse. I ended up in hospital, where I realised I couldn’t keep ignoring my diagnosis.
Since then, I’ve been on a journey to accept MS, starting with therapy and finally beginning treatment. I even ended up laughing about it when I had another relapse. After some incredible support from my psychologist, neurologist and of course my friends and family, I started treatment and, better late than never, began talking about my MS openly. Today, I can genuinely say I’m ready to share my story and, hopefully, help others feel less alone in their MS journeys.
And that’s why I’m here! The MS Trust does amazing work, providing life-changing support to people with MS. From diagnosis to daily life, they help make sense of it all.
Thank you for reading my story, and any contribution you can make to support this cause means the world. Even if it’s just a share, every little bit helps!
