Can you help Eric?

Eric came into our care after being surrendered at a local vet clinic due to his eye problems. Unfortunately, the vet found Eric had microphthalmia as well as an eyelash and eyelid deformity. This could possibly be due to inbreeding. This means Eric is blind, and his eyes and eyesight were beyond repair.

At just 8 weeks old, Eric had to have both eyes removed. The vet was able to schedule Eric's surgery quickly, as the eye deformity would have been causing him pain. Initially, we weren’t sure if he would need one or two surgeries, due to his age and size, as well as the risk involved. However, Eric coped well, and the vet was able to remove both eyes in one surgery.

Eric has recovered well with the support of our vet and volunteers giving him lots of TLC. He is now without pain, and as he has been used to being blind being so young, he hasn’t let it faze him! In fact, some of the volunteers who have been looking after Eric while he waits for his forever home have described him as ‘a dramatic, affectionate and very playful kitten’ who has taken it all in his stride and plays like any seeing kitten.

Eric has been in our care for 45 days, and over that time his cost of care has totalled over £500. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the generosity of people like you.£500 will cover the full cost of Eric’s extra care and surgery, alongside vaccinations, neutering, microchipping and flea and worm treatments. Any donations received above and beyond this amount will be used to care for other cats across Northern Ireland who have ended up in our care through no fault of their own.
