Story
On Saturday 8th June, my eldest child Sam and I will compete in the 2024 Norfolk Superhero (a quadrathlon comprising a 1 mile swim, 4+ mile kayak, 45 mile cycle, and an 8 mile run).
Our team is called 'Norfolks Given' and we (or I...) have trained hard through the gruelling winter months. We aim to complete the challenge in between 5 and 6 hours.
We are raising money for the Burnham Overy Harbour Trust, to enable it to carry out vital restoration work to the creek and salt marshes that comprise this SSSI.
Sam and I would be sincerely grateful for your financial support as we undertake this BIG challenge!

THE SUPERHERO CHALLENGE
The Norfolk Superhero is a quadrathlon event for teams of two, based in and around the village of Burnham Overy Staithe on the north Norfolk coast. It comprises a 1 mile swim along the main creek on which the village sits, a 4+ mile kayak paddle around the creeks, a 45 mile cycle ride around north-west Norfolk, and an 8 mile run on trail, sand, mud and marsh to Holkham and back.
BURNHAM OVERY HARBOUR TRUST
The 2024 Norfolk Superhero is supporting Burnham Overy Harbour Trust, specifically raising funds for the vital work involved in restoring the creek. This will primarily involve the restoration of the groynes which are crucial in preventing the creek from silting up, as well as taking important measures to reduce erosion of the marshes.
WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT?
Burnham Overy Staithe’s salt marshes and creeks are a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to their unique biodiversity, range of ecosystems and large number of habitat specific plants.
The Superhero fundraising will fast-track this major restoration project which may otherwise take many years to complete. Without this work, the fragile ecosystems would suffer enormously. This work will secure this fragile and incredibly important landscape for the next generation.
