Story
Led by our founder and MD Tony Reynolds, and veteran Dasher Oliver Cock, we have assembled a team of 11 cyclists from across the Reynolds Group to take on the Duchenne Dash in support of Duchenne UK. We range from novice cyclists to experienced riders, all committed to raising as much as possible to beat this disease and find a cure.
On the 17th & 18th May I will be embarking, as part of the Reynolds Catering Supplies team, on the Duchenne Dash. A 300km road bike (no e-bikes allowed!) dash over 24 hours from London to Paris. This is organised by Duchenne UK - a charity dedicated to raising money & awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy; a currently incurable disease and one that is very close to my heart as my cousin Charlie was diagnosed with this at a young age. Charlie loves the beach, walking his dogs (Stewie & Ebby) and keeping up with his mates when they head out. His condition (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) means he is progressively losing his muscle strength and therefore losing his ability to get around, without help.
Duchenne is a debilitating genetic disorder that has no cure. It affects approximately one in 3500 boys, so it is considered an ultra rare condition, for which treatments are limited. It slowly results in muscle wasting & weakness across the entire body. Any support for researching this illness and helping to find a cure would provide hope for many young men and their families.
As someone with no experience of cycling (aside from the occasional lime bike ride around London) I am equal parts terrified and excited with cycling a whole new ball game I’ve never experienced before. Training is well and truly happening now on my trusty steed - The Flying Banana. Any donations to this incredible charity would be much appreciated. Please share with friends and family as every cent (woops penny!!) helps in getting better treatments and hopefully a cure for this tough disease.
