Story
I've been raising funds and awareness for Cure Leukaemia since 2020 when I became aware of Geoff Thomas' story, his diagnosis, treatment, recovery and ultimately his tireless work to support Professor Charlie Craddock and his team at Cure Leukaemia in finding cures for blood cancers.
On July 7th this year I will ride the Etape du Tour.... stage 20 of this year's Tour de France at 138km and 4,591 metres of elevation. In addition I'll do the thing that I least like doing - running !! and together with my daughter Issy and partner Sam will take on the Manchester 1/2 marathon in October - trust me I'd rather ride back to the start at the end of the Etape.
Since 2020 my colleagues and I along with our suppliers, customers and supporters at Booths, have raised over £250,000 and we are working hard to raise more. Since 2023, all the money Booths raises directly funds a Cancer Research Nurse position at Blackpool Teaching Hospital. This role was developed and created with our help and support and Denise has been in position for nearly a year now. We are continuing to raise funds to make sure she is there for many years to come
Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer.
