36km/36 mile run · 8 March 2025
My younger brother, Simon Lee, would have been 36 years old this March, so I've decided to run 36 km in his memory. Gary is going to run 36 miles, and our children will join us for part of the run along the way.
We are raising money for three vital charities that support people bereaved by suicide. They have directly supported my family and me, including my mum, dad, and Enfys, our daughter.
I don't know how I would have gotten through those first few months without Cruse Bereavement Support sessions and counseling from Suicide&Co. I still receive support through a SOBS group, all run by volunteers who have also been bereaved by suicide.
The pain of losing my little brother to suicide is indescribable and even now, it hasn't left me and never will. We all painfully miss Simon Lee daily and still have so many unanswered questions around his death. Life will never be the same without him here.
I want to raise awareness of these charities that I knew nothing about until I was desperate to find help and answers.
On average, 15 people a day die by suicide in the UK, and all those families need support and help. I wish I could do more, but I feel this is a start. I know times are tough, but any amount you can give would be gratefully received. Hopefully, more families can receive the support we did to learn how to navigate this horrendous grief.
Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SoBS) is a national charity that provides support to people over the age of 18 impacted by suicide. The mission of SoBS is to provide free peer support to adults bereaved by suicide in a timely and open-ended manner and our vision is that no one bereaved by suicide has to face their loss alone.
