Fundraising for Support SEND Kids Limited
Story
After 7 years taking part in Blenheim triathlon for different charities, this year, instead, I will be cycling from home to The Hall School in Belsize Park to Blenheim Palace, a total distance of around 120km.
Unlike previous years, with the cold winter, wet spring, aversion to traffic since being knocked off my bike by a van in 2021 and dire state of the roads, my cycling training has been entirely indoors and dare I say minimal so this is going to be tough!
Together with The Hall School triathlon team and Tour de Godwin cycling team, I am raising money for an incredible charity called Support SEND Kids. SEND includes both physical disabilities and neurodiversity, and SSK supports those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia and other, often combined, learning difficulties.
There are 1 million school age children in the UK with SEND who face desperate and often invisible struggles to access learning, navigate friendships, or just survive the school day. Support SEND Kids provides an amazing resource to obtain pro bono expert legal and practical advice and disseminate this to families with SEND children. This enables them to navigate the complicated obstacles to accessing the education to which SEND children are entitled. They have a comprehensive and free website and they are working on other brilliant tools to help SEND children to thrive.
Alongside fundraising, we are aiming to spread the word about https://supportsendkids.org so that the people who need the advice can benefit from it.

How you and Support SEND Kids can help
After nearly 30 interviews with parents of SEND kids, it is clear that the fight to get their child the right provision adds huge mental load to already exhausted parents. But when the system works and the right education is in place, SEND children can amaze everyone. Each child is unique and faces a personal set of challenges but sometimes only small adjustments can enable them to get the most out of their education. We believe all children have the right to be the best version of themselves.
