Story
In July 2022, one month after founding Chameleon Buddies, Gill and Nicola visited Kenya to meet with the women in Eldoret, bringing all the women with ostomies together for the first time, in a peer support group. They left behind 3 months of stoma supplies for each woman, who were all trained, alongside the nurses, in how to use the products. As a result, all of the women are now active with their stomas, the children are back at school, and hospital re-admissions due to stoma infections are now zero.
Stoma and continence clinics, patient peer support groups, staff training and travelling stoma advocates, alongside regular stoma supplies, will enable all these women to continue to live a comfortable life with their ostomies. Most importantly, they can be reintegrated back into their communities.
In 2023 a team of 4 returned to Eldoret to facilitate stoma clinics, patient peer support groups, staff training and set up travelling stoma advocates.
This activity alongside regular stoma supplies, will enable all these women to continue to live a comfortable life with their ostomies. Most importantly, they can be reintegrated back into their communities.
The Chameleon Buddies team return to Eldoret in Kenya in 2024, this time as a team of 6, Stoma Nurse, Claire Ryan leading a clinical team including Stoma Nurse, Sarah Duke & Continence Nurse, Karen Noades. Gill Castle & Nicola Napier leading the Peer Support Workshop & Charlotte Watson in charge of stoma supplies.
