Story
Walk of Hope in London is Brain Tumour Research's annual national event raising money to bring hope to brain tumour patients and their families.
Every September, hundreds of supporters join Brain Tumour Research Walk of Hope events taking place across the UK or organise my own walk in my community, set up fundraising pages and make donations to help find a cure for brain tumours, which kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.
My story? Woke up on Halloween to find a me falling into an awake seizure, which meant (unfortunately) a grade3 oligodendroglioma was just sat behind my left eye. Ended up with an asleep-awake procedure, followed by 33 sessions of radiotherapy and 6 sessions of pcv chemo… this was the worst as my bloods weren’t playing ball and I had to be put into isolation a couple of times.
It was all very, very fast but remained positive towards the diagnosis... 7 (nearly 8) years later here I am! Fighting strong and positive as ever!
But statistically showing that over 5,300 people lose their lives to a brain tumour each year - shocking amount. As a survivor of a cancerous brain tumour (don't ask me to pronounce it) I have beaten it down but need to awareness of what my type of tumour can do. Scary right?
I'll be stepping forward to help find a cure in 2024.
