Will you Brave the Wave with MYTIME for young carers this January? The aim is simple. Get in the sea, or other cold water sources, every day in January. The reality is much harder, so join our own Tim Sills and dip every day in the winter sea!

Story

UPDATE 15.1.25 - Supposedly my last day......

Well I spoke too soon!!! Thank you 🤔 to Mark and Ally for 'donating' me two extra days! I am running out of hats, so I have bought one which I will donate to Ally for the rest of her challenge - she's doing 31 days so needs one for the next two weeks!

UPDATE 13.1.25

Day 13, very cold 🥶 this morning. Thank you to everyone that has donated, to me and others completing this challenge. Only 2 more days to go for me!!!! See below...

UPDATE 9.1.25

Dog theft on the beach! Witch hat saved from waves! See below.....

UPDATE 7.1.25

Lucy has donated 🙏 on the basis that I wear the hat she has sent me. It will be going in to the sea with me this Friday morning. Whatever the weather!

UPDATE 6.1.25

I have gone in every day so far, through arctic blasts, sand blasting, and wind driven waves, despite a nice warm bed tempting me otherwise!

Extra days are still available for £50 donations (joint contributions accepted), thought I might put the price up soon as it really is quite unpleasant!

Different hat every day, Viking today, which fortunately was waterproof!!

STORY

I must admit that I didn’t really think about how tough it is for carers until recently, when I witnessed my dad caring for my mum in the last few months of her life ♥️.

As a grown-up it was a difficult and stressful time for him - imagine how much harder this is for say, a twelve-year old child.

Young carers work incredibly hard to take care of their loved ones. This could involve daily household tasks, mental health support, helping a loved one get showered and/or dressed and much much more.

It is a 24/7 responsibility and on top of that they go to school, college, university or work. It's just their way of life. This can ultimately lead to them facing significant disadvantage as a result, and MYTIME Young Carers don't think that's right or fair.

To raise funds to help support young carers, they have organised a Brave the Wave fundraising sea dip challenge this January 🌊 🥶. Foolishly, I have found myself agreeing to take part for 15 days and will be wearing a different hat for each dip.

It would be great to raise some money for such a good cause. If you feel that you want to/can donate a little, please do.

Some brave souls are ‘doing more time’ so to speak, up to 50 days 💪. But I don’t like the cold and am already dreading the 15 days that I have committed to.

If you feel (generously) mean and would like me to do an extra day 😱, you can ‘buy’ one for a £50 donation (you can even provide the hat!). Just add in the donation message that you want another day of dipping!

So, Happy New Year, and thank you to anyone that can help raise funds for MYTIME Young Carers in 2025.
