Story

Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page. By supporting Sobell House Hospice, you can help provide compassionate care to those facing life’s most challenging moments. Your generosity will have a lasting impact on patients, families, and healthcare workers at Sobell House, who work tirelessly to provide holistic healthcare, addressing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.

Every year, hospices across the UK provide essential care and support to over 300,000 people. Despite their vital role in our healthcare system, they are largely funded by charitable donations. On average, only one-third of adult hospice income originates from the NHS, leaving the majority of their work dependent on public support. Every year, Sobell House Hospice Oxford must raise over £2 million to deliver their services, including inpatient care, hospice at home, wellbeing, psychological & emotional Support, and education & information services.

On 9th March 2025, I will take on one of the biggest challenges of my life: cycling 109 km in the Cape Town Cycle Tour in South Africa. After completing several half-marathons, trail runs, and the London Marathon in 2018, I paused my running career to focus on my Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) studies at the University of Oxford. However, in early 2024, my life took a new direction when I became a volunteer at Sobell House Hospice.

As a volunteer, I have witnessed the extraordinary care Sobell House provides. In my role, I help enhance patients’ well-being by offering companionship, respite, and support both on the ward and in the community. Every weekend, I also serve as a ward assistant, spending time with patients, serving meals, and ensuring they feel supported and at ease.

This experience has been life-changing. It has deepened my passion for holistic patient care, inspired my interest in palliative medicine, and shaped my goal to prioritise dignity and comfort in my future career as a doctor. Having secured an offer to read Graduate-Entry Medicine at the University of Oxford, starting in September 2025, I am further motivated to make this cycling challenge truly meaningful by dedicating it to Sobell House Hospice.

This cycle ride will test my physical and mental endurance, but I am determined to make every kilometre count. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will directly support the incredible work Sobell House does daily.

Donating through JustGiving is quick, secure, and efficient. Your details are safe, and every penny goes directly to the charity, helping them continue their vital work.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support.
