Story
Greene King are proud to have supported Macmillan since 2012 and have helped to raise over £17 million. We are fundraising so that Macmillan can help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can and continue to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
With statistics showing that 1 in 2 of us will be affected by cancer in our lifetime, our support for them and the people they care for has never been more important. Any donation you can make will be greatly appreciated to help support this wonderful charity.
This year I will be taking part in not one but TWO challenges to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support! Details of the challenges are below. This will be a real test of my fitness as the events are taking place only 3 days apart so recovery time will be minimal.
Mere to Mountain: 5 September
This is a multi-activity challenge, starting with a 10mile cycle that starts from Bowness-on-Windermere, where we cross the lake via ferry, before continuing a gradual ascent past the beautiful Esthwaite Water and through Hawkshead before descending into the village of Coniston.
Swapping pedals for boots, we’ll then tackle the 5-mile trekking element of the challenge by ascending The Old Man of Coniston - the highest point of Lancashire - with a height gain of almost 700m. It’s no mean feat to reach the summit! After a short rest we head down via Goat’s Water back to Coniston and then retrace our cycle route back to Windermere. We finish with the final challenge of the day, paddling a 2 mile loop around some islands and across the lake.
Great North Run: 8 September
Little introduction needed for this event, the world’s biggest half marathon with c60,000 runners taking on the 13.1mile route from Newcastle to South Shields. The finishing line is very close to Greene King’s pub The Bamburgh, where I’ll definitely need some refreshment afterwards!
Thank you for your kind donation.
