Story
Nick and Mike are undertaking this massive challenge in memory of Nick’s wife, Sue, and to raise much needed funds for the Charity ‘My Cancer My Choices’ (MCMC). Sue, who was a trustee for the Charity was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in 2014. During Sue’s Cancer treatments she was closely supported by the Charity, receiving complimentary therapies, and undertaking Yoga and a Mindfulness Course. In June 2020, Sue sadly passed away.
In May 2021, Nick was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer, and has been undergoing immunotherapy treatment, which was completed in April last year. Nick is also a volunteer for the Charity, and received complimentary therapy support alongside his conventional treatment.
Nick and Mike are completing the Three Peaks Cycle Challenge unsupported starting on Tuesday 6th June 2023. They will climb the three highest mountains in the UK; Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon - a total of 3,408m, and cycling between all three a total of 778kms. They will complete the challenge on Friday 16th June, on the summit of Snowdon. It will take a total of 11 days.
Nick and Mike are no Spring Chickens and have been training hard to conquer this Challenge. Any support is greatly appreciated in aid of this incredible cause.
One in two people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. Cancer affects the body, mind and spirit, and MCMC passionately believe that everyone with cancer should have access to complimentary therapies. MCMC's volunteer specialist therapists offer free, one-to-one treatments such as acupuncture and massage, alongside group courses in mindfulness and yoga. These aim to relieve the side effects of cancer treatment, and can make the cancer journey easier by encouraging relaxation and reducing stress.
