For one night I'm sleeping in a shelter under the stars, whatever the weather on Thursday 27th March 2025 at The Trenches in Detling Showground, replicating the experience that many of our nation's heroes have to cope with on a nightly basis.

Right now, in the UK, veterans are experiencing homelessness in the UK. During the winter months Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) always see an increased number of veterans arrive at our door needing support, after experiencing extreme weather conditions, poor mental health, hunger and cold.

At RBLI, they support over 340 veterans and their families, including those facing homelessness, young veteran families and older veterans with health conditions and they are home to the Tommy. They provide emergency accommodation, essential toiletries, clothing and comprehensive mental health and employment support. There aim is to be a lifeline, preserving the well-being and dignity of these individuals and their families.

This is one of my favourite charities as the work they do is inspirational and makes a true difference to those we rely on in times of trouble, who are struggling themselves.
