Story
Hey, I'm Niamh, and in August of 2024 I will be climbing Kilimanjaro with a group of students from my university, Technological University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and the University of Limerick.
I will be raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation and spreading awareness of the work that they do. If you didn't already know, of those who get meningococcal disease, 10-15 percent die. Among those who survive, approximately 1 in 5 live with permanent disabilities, such as brain damage, hearing loss, loss of kidney function or limb amputations. 21 percent of all meningococcal disease cases occur in preteens, teens and young adults ages 11–24.
MRF's goals are:
Goal 1- To enable better research for better evidence and policy
Goal 2- To transform public and policy engagement in meningitis
Goal 3- To secure the profile and funds to deliver their goals
Goal 4- To grow their capacity to deliver at scale.
I am looking forward to training for this challenge. Along the way I will also be participating in some challenges to fundraise as much as possible!
Thanks,
Niamh :)
