Story
Thank you so much for visiting my Just Giving to NSPCC page.
50 years ago I left school, unable to believe that my hell had ended. In the next 16 years I descended to the bottom. Diagnosed with clinical depression, what I was experiencing now had a name. Fast forward 12 years and, with a wonderful therapist, I started my journey back to the light. Join me for the latest chapter.
In July 2022, Nicky Campbell cracked open a door with his podcast on abuse at my school, and I walked through it. I had no idea what was coming down the tracks: giving evidence, being a witness, making a podcast and TV programme, going back to the school.
But most mind-blowing was meeting fellow survivors. I was never going to have anything to do with former pupils …….. ever. Yet some are now my closest friends and, with 6 others, I’m trekking to Everest Base Camp and Lobuche. Why? The Scottish hills were my escape. The Himalayas are Munros on steroids, so why wouldn’t I? It’ll be the most wonderful therapy ever.
At last I feel I’m not alone. Helping NSPCC break the barriers of silence and aloneness is something I can give back, so that children today know they’re not alone. Please help Team Uprising achieve our fundraising target. Many many thanks.
