Story
We are a team of 8 wild swimmers from Argyll on the West Coast of Scotland. Our challenge is to swim across the Gulf Of Corryvreckan which is the world's 3rd largest whirlpool !!!
The Gulf Of Corryvreckan is located between the islands of Jura and Scarba, as the flood tide is being pushed up the Sound of Jura it gets trapped and is forced through this channel. As the fast moving tide goes through the Gulf Of Corryvreckan it encounters various obstacles including a large gorge on the sea bed which has a straight cliff like end to it. The moving water is forced up the gorge and forms standing waves that can reach 9 metres which stand still and brake heavily. The water then encounters a pinnacle that rises to 30 metres below the surface and the whirlpool is formed.
In this challenge we will swim across at slack water when the motion of the water is less. This is a short window and the tide will start to run again.
Thanks for your suport for this amazing charity.
Too many people are still drowning. More than ever we need the RNLI’s help. As a charity, the RNLI depends on our donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe.
RNLI lifesavers are our lifeline. They’re the lifeboat crews who provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. The lifeguards keeping watch on 240 of the busiest beaches in the UK and Channel Islands. And the RNLI safety teams and educators working tirelessly to stop people getting into trouble in the first place.
Thank you.
