We raise funds for Myocarditis Research to improve survival rates across the UK

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page! We are raising money to fund vital research into myocarditis in honour of the life of Alexander Jansons. Alex was a team mate of an nCino colleague whilst playing football at university together before his sudden passing.

In terms of Myocarditis itself - one young person dies each WEEK in the UK due to undiagnosed myocarditis. The latest research shows that as many as three cases of Sudden Death Syndrome in young people in the UK could be attributed to undiagnosed forms of myocarditis. Myocarditis is an inflammatory condition of the heart muscle and while it can, and does, affect people of all ages, it is more prevalent in males than females.

Diagnosing myocarditis is made tricky in younger people as the symptoms can mimic other illnesses and the after effects of these illnesses, added with the fact that young people with these symptoms tend to look otherwise healthy until it's too late. Alexander Jansons was one such young man and the Jansons family vowed that no other family should have to suffer as they did through lack of knowledge.

The charity raises money to fund research into all forms and aspects of Myocarditis and in the past 9 years, has made significant advances and steps in this field of research.

It is the pleasure of all at nCino to be part of this journey and to help such a worthwhile cause. Below you can find a little about each of the ten participants:

1) Tom – much like Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, Tom has a gruff but loveable sense of humour and that will be a great asset during this trip. He may not break the record for fastest ride, but he may for most swear words dropping while riding.

2) Harry – has substantial experience and if we manage to double the donations by 14th July Harry has promised to use his Brompton to cycle to Paris...

3) Lara – despite not owning a bicycle prior to this adventure, she’s been so organised and diligent that she may be the one to watch for.

4) Julie – is embarking on this adventure without owning a bicycle and without realising she would be riding 60 miles a day for 3 consecutive days. It’s too late to pull out now...

5) Remy – with solid cycling experience, Remy is a great asset to the group and one of only two French riders on this trip.

6) Danielle – hasn't owned a bike since she was 10 years old, and tends to be clumsy, so high chance she might find the experience somewhat challenging.

7) David – returning from retirement for one last mission - taking on the challenge of team mechanic and support van driver. Not getting on a bike.

8) Marlen – dedicated cyclist who rides to work every day. She’s fit a ready to lead this team to France! No doubt she’ll be even having fun hyping everyone up during the 3 days.

9) Hagop – A true athlete, Hagop it fit and ready for this adventure. Cycling to Paris is likely going to relax him and give him a bit of a break from all the exercising and opportunity to use his French.

10) Julia – another one without a bike and without much previous cycling experience, but with plenty of positive attitude and naiveté to think she stands a chance.

About the charity

Myocarditis kills one young person suddenly every week in the UK. We aim to raise awareness and fund life changing research into this little known heart condition so that it can be detected and diagnosed earlier and successfully treated to improve the outcome.
