I’m Natasha. Myself, my family and friends will be doing an 8 mile mountain walk across a forestry trail in the Ogmore Valley on 3rd August 2024 to raise money for the Intensive Therapy Unit at Morriston Hospital, where I received life saving treatment earlier this year.

I delivered my second child, Phoebe, on 31st January. We left the hospital later that day to begin our lives as a family of 4 with my husband, Andrew and our 2 year old son, Wilfred.

As soon as we arrived home, I was in excruciating pain and realised that something was wrong. I was re-admitted to the Maternity Unit and my family were later advised that I was critically unwell and fighting an infection. My body was in a state of septic shock. I was blue lighted by ambulance to ITU at Morriston Hospital.

I spent 28 days at ITU, 18 days of which I was on life support. My body was fighting a Strep A infection and I developed multiple organ failure, septic arthritis in my right knee and left wrist, pneumonia and severe cellulitis. I am told that my body fought tirelessly with help from the incredible ITU doctors and nurses. Thankfully, after 40 days in hospital and 3 surgeries to wash infection out of my body, I was discharged to recover at home with my family. I am still very much recovering from the ordeal however I feel incredibly lucky to be alive.

There is no doubt that the care I received during my time at ITU saved my life. We could not be more grateful to all of the staff at ITU and we are in complete awe of the fantastic work that they do each day.
